Jesus the Abundant Shepherd
By Pastor Donna
Lost in a different neighborhood? Need directions? Have a flat tire?…Recently, our young neighbors who knocked on the wrong door, drove into the wrong driveway or tried to hop into the wrong car have paid a terrible price. At least four different young people in just 10 days have made costly mistakes, mistakes that most of us have made. But they were shot, and one of them died. Our culture of suspicion and fear, plus the idolatry of guns, has created a dangerous mix.
Join us Sunday as we explore “Jesus the Abundant Shepherd” (John’s Gospel chapter 10:1-10). Today, I want to focus on verse 10:10b, where Jesus says, “I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” “More abundantly” means to have a superabundance of a thing.
In a world that appears to be led by fear and suspicion, Jesus the Good Shepherd, shows us how to see the world from His perspective. Empowering us to discern the world around us through his eyes! Jesus said: Perfect love casts out fear and exposes the poison of suspicion. People led by God’s love WOULD NOT shoot to kill an innocent stranger at the wrong house. The wrong driveway. The wrong car.
Those led by LOVE are living the abundant life; where LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, GOODNESS, KINDNESS, AND SELF CONTROL are the influencers. Jesus wants us to have an abundant life free from fear and the venom of suspicion because harm often follows. Do you have fears? Do you struggle with mistrust and suspicion? The Shepherd is calling us! Come Follow Me!
