Candlelight Taizé Meditation Service
Lay and ordained leadership from the Merrimack Valley will hold an Ecumenical prayer service to pray for peace before our national and local elections in November. The service will take place on Friday, October 17th, from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the Collegiate Church at Merrimack College in North Andover. Those interested in praying for peace are invited to attend. For more information, contact (978) 373-1270.
“Worshipping together with a focus on peace before our national elections can help us rediscover an inner peace and nurture a desire to discern God’s call," according to The Rev. Marya DeCarlen, Rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Groveland, a service organizer.
Youth and adults are invited to gather and seek communion with God in prayer, singing, silence, light and reflection. The service will be modeled after Taize singing and prayer. Taize is an ecumenical community of 100 brothers located in France where youth between the ages of 17 - 30 come from every continent to take part in daily worship and reflections, small group study or to participate in a summer pilgrimage.
Giant peace dove puppets, from the Kids as Peacemakers initiative, and Peace Dove flags will begin the service. There will be diverse musical, meditative, prayerful and reflective offerings. In addition there will be candles placed throughout the worship space as a hallmark sign of a Taize style service.
Give yourself this gift of time with God. Information on the Taizé community can be found at www.taize.fr.
