No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, there is a home for you at Groveland Congregational Church.

We appreciate your support of the ministries of the Congregational Church.

What To Expect When You Visit

Who are you?

Welcome! Join us for worship— you will find a warm welcome and a spiritually enriching experience. We are families and singles, kids and elders, residents of Groveland, Haverhill, West Newbury and other nearby towns. Some of us have grown up in the church, and some of us are newcomers to the whole church experience. We welcome everyone!

Where do I park?

The church is located at 4 King Street in Groveland. We have a parking lot behind the church building or you can park along the road on King Street.

Is there a dress code?

You are welcome to come as you are and wear whatever you please. You will find that some people dress in suits and ties or dresses and others are more comfortable in jeans.

What can I expect?

We meet Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary. The service is usually about an hour long and is filled with music and joyful celebration. We begin worship together, and then the children depart for their church school classrooms before the sermon. The first Sunday of the month is a little longer when we celebrate Communion, which EVERYONE is welcome to receive. The children do not leave for Sunday School that day. On the third Sunday of the month the formal part of our service is a bit shorter and we break into smaller groups to learn together.

What about kids?

Every Sunday except for the first one of the month, kids age preschool-high school have engaging classes during worship taught by loving volunteers. We gather together to begin worship, and then your children will be invited to go with the Sunday School teachers immediately following the Children's Sermon. On the first Sunday of the month, everyone remains in worship together and participates in the Celebration of Communion. Our nursery is not currently staffed for babies but if we know this is a need you have we can make the necessary arrangements.

What happens after the church service?

Join us for coffee and conversation! We meet in Fellowship Hall after the service. It’s a wonderful way to connect with one another in a rich spirit of community.

Can I watch a video?

Yes! Each week Pastor Chris posts a live stream video of the service on his facebook page. Click on the link above and you will see his page.

Are you handicapped accessible?

Our sanctuary is accessible. There is a ramp located to the left of the building which you are welcome to use. Unfortunately we do not have accessibility to the rest of the building a this time but we hope to soon!

Church History

The Groveland Congregational Church was organized in 1726. The current sanctuary building was completed in 1790. The seating capacity is approximately 300 people for the main floor and the balcony. Housed in the belfry is the second oldest Paul Revere bell in existence and the oldest in regular use (we ring it every Sunday). An adjacent building, Memorial Hall, was added in 1850, and it currently houses a Thrift Shop in the basement and a hall on the main floor. In 1960, the sanctuary and Memorial Hall were connected with the addition of Fellowship Hall, a kitchen, classrooms, and offices. An independent pre-school is housed in several of these classrooms and is operated year-round. Recently, projects have been completed to upgrade the exterior of the sanctuary, to restore and add to our organ pipes, and to restore our stained-glass windows.

Here I learned about God but also witnessed the importance of loving my neighbor. The people of this church work so hard to give and ask nothing in return. And still, there is always someone there to greet me with a smile...a genuine smile. I live all over the U.S. but I always seem to come back. I am proud to say I got married here and 5 years later had my daughter baptized here. I cannot thank this church enough for their unconditional support.

I longed for a church that would embrace me without judgment, a place that would encourage me to grow and explore my faith. I wanted to know what faith meant. I yearned for a place where the community would help me practice loving all of God's people without exception. I needed to serve God; and I found all of these things and so much more all at GCC!

The Groveland Congregational Church is such an inspiring community to belong to and a great way to give back. Whether it’s raising money through the church fair, helping gather supplies for War West Virginia, or caroling for those who need to feel like they are remembered, you can always find a way to help out and have fun doing it. There is just no way to sum up all that the GCC does and all that it is. I am very proud to be part of such a loving congregation. Mikayla, age 15
